Voter-Approval Tax Rate Election (VATRE)

Hello Howard Knight Families,

This is the final week of early voting before Election Day on Nov. 2. Voting is one way we get to use our voice, and for Mansfield ISD residents, you have an opportunity to vote on how our schools are funded through the district’s Penny Swap election.

The Penny Swap, or Voter-Approval Tax Rate Election (VATRE), proposes to restructure the district’s tax rate by swapping 13 pennies from the debt side of the tax rate to the operations side of the tax rate. If passed, the Penny Swap would generate approximately $24.7 million in additional revenue to the district each year while keeping the total MISD tax rate at $1.4183 (approximately 3 cents less than last year’s overall tax rate).

I encourage you to visit misdpennyswap.org to learn more about why the district called the election and to review the ballot before you go to the polls.

During early voting – which continues through Friday, October 29 – polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tarrant County residents may vote at any Tarrant County vote center. Nearby vote centers include J.L. Boren Elementary, the Mansfield ISD Center for the Performing Arts, Vernon Newsom Stadium, Summit High School and the Mansfield Sub Courthouse.

On Election Day – which is Tuesday, Nov. 2 – polls are also open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. There are additional vote center locations on Election Day, and the complete list can be found on the Election Information page of the Penny Swap website.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me or call our district’s communications and marketing office at 817-299-6345.

Please join me in exercising your right to vote and showing our students the importance of using their voice.

Sincerely,

Erica Gorruso
